When the baby phase of the parenting journey is over, many mums find the hardest thing to part ways with is their nursing chair. It is the space where, feed by feed, that deep, lasting bond with your child is built. Many a long hour, in the day or the wee hours of the night, is spent snuggled up with your little one, filling their tiny bellies, and also lavishing them with a parent’s love that will stand them in good stead throughout their lives. It is the space for happy times, where your little one will (most likely) be calm and content, and if you can put aside your to-do list for the time being, you will be too.

Because so much time will be spent in your nursing chair, it is not a purchase that should be taken lightly. You will want to find something comfortable, supportive, and durable with the features and accessories that will make feeding your little one all the more pleasant. Below you will find a selection of nursing chairs and pillows that we love, and that will support you and your newborn in establishing and maintaining healthy, happy breastfeeding.

Why you most definitely need a nursing chair

Feeding a newborn looks easy. Surely it’s the most natural thing in the world to sit down and help them feed. Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. It requires long time spans spent in the one position, and unless that position is supported and comfortable, it can quickly become problematic.

You need a chair that supports your back and arms and helps you to hold your baby in the perfect position for them to best feed. That means feeding on the sofa, in bed or anywhere other than your nursing chair, in the very early stages at least, can be quite difficult.

Aside from feeding, movement can be a very useful tool for calming your baby. Rocking chairs and nursery gliders help mimic the always-in-motion environment your baby enjoyed before birth, soothing them off to sleep.

There are so many choices; which chair do I need?

As with many of the collections here at PramFox, we’ve pared our selection down to the absolute best. We want to take some of the decision-fatigue out of the nesting phase, so we’ve done much of the elimination for you. You’ll find nothing but the best baby changing tables, strollers, baby mattresses, cribs… and nursing chairs are no exception. Chairs with noisy gliding mechanisms, chairs that easily stain, are overly bulky or don’t meet safety standards have all been filtered out, leaving you with a much simpler choice.

Consider the features you want, and the choice is easy. Do you want rocking or gliding, a footstool or none, a recliner, or armrest pockets for your water bottle, breast pump, phone, and those all-important snacks? You can trust that any of the breastfeeding chairs above will be excellent. Just choose the one that’s calling your name.

Why we love nursing and pregnancy pillows.

It’s simple: comfort. Both nursing and pregnancy pillows (and they can be similar or very different from one another) can make the uncomfortable, very comfortable.

In your third trimester, sleeping can become very uncomfy. You’ll find that your body needs support in new places for you to drift off to sleep. Also, it’s important that you sleep on your side, and a good pregnancy pillow can ensure you’re in the best position for a sound night’s sleep.

While you can support your baby while they feed with your arm alone, their tiny head gets heavy surprisingly quickly! A good nursing pillow supports your arm and your baby’s little body so that you can comfortably stay nursing them until they are well and truly finished, and possibly until they wake up from their post-feed nap too, because sometimes you’re the only baby bedding that will do!
